Homemade from scratch - light, crisp and delicious pizza in your own kitchen!
INGREDIENTS
For the Dough
Flour 3 ½ cups
Sugar 1 tsp + 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Yeast 1 small packet, (2 ¼ tsp or .25 oz)
Baking Powder 1 tsp
Water 1 ½ cup, lukewarm
Olive oil ¼ cup
Pizza Sauce
Tomato sauce 1 can (28oz)
Tomato paste 2 tbs
Oregano dry ½ tsp
Basil dry ½ tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Garlic powder 1 tsp
Chili powder ½ tsp
In a bowl mix all the ingredients together and it is ready to be used for your pizza.
Method
1) Activate the yeast with ½ cup water and tsp of sugar. Let it froth for few minutes.
2) Mix salt, baking powder and sugar to the flour. Add the oil and crumble it into the flour.
3) Slowly add the active yeast and water to the flour and mix it all together until the flour comes together into a ball. Use warm water, a little at a time until all the flour comes into a ball.
4) Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it well for 5-7 minutes to activate the gluten in the flour which will make the pizza base crisp.
5) Grease a bowl with oil and let the dough proof for about 1 ½ hour, until it doubles in size.
6) Gently release the dough from the bowl and place it on the counter. Divide the dough into equal parts. (4 parts if you want 12 inch pizzas or 6 parts if you want 10 inch pizza)
7) Using some flour, roll it out to ¼ inch thickness.
8) With your fingers make tiny depressions in the dough and pinch the edge to give it a rustic look.
9) Spread pizza sauce in an uniform layer. Top with mozzarella cheese and toppings of your choice.
10) Preheat oven to 220C or 450F and bake for 7-8 mins until crisp and edges turn golden.
Using a pizza cutter slice the pizza and enjoy!!!
